My name is Claire and I am the lady behind the letters.

Being from the Gulf Coast I speak with a strong Southern accent.  I have an affinity for vintage culture.  I enjoy listening to others. I often find myself reflecting back on life and the lessons I have or will learn . I enjoy writing. I am most proud of helping to make people feel less alone using depth of spirit as a shelter from the storms of life and how we are all interrelated. I believe in correcting injustice.

I love to make people laugh. Philosophically I subscribe to a very simple theory: follow the golden rule.  The thing I remember most often is that I am privileged to be able to live a free and authentic life.  Free to be myself. Remembering the value of what I am grateful for, supporting others on their own journey. I never forget the many people who had to pay with their freedom for something we now sometimes take for granted.

Being surrounded by interesting & eclectic people gives me energy. The real authenticity that cannot be duplicated or manufactured helped me come up with the name “The Peculiar Ink” along with a story about someone describing themselves as a peculiar child. I recognized that feeling well and felt a quintessential desire to incorporate that into my work. The word “peculiar” is defined simultaneously as strange or odd & particular and special. My art is for those who have ever felt the same.

The journey to professional freelancing began in 2016 and with patience and persistence I have become dedicated to the lost art of calligraphy and hand lettering. I enjoy creating a timeless and elegant aesthetic while at the same time maintaining a sense of surprise. Good vibes go a long way in my book. Working with fun people who don't take life too seriously (but know the project is always done best when done right) is my greatest passion.

I strongly believe in living and letting live.  If we work together we will enjoy a collaborative approach to the process or… for those who prefer, I am always happy to take the creative ‘helm of the ship’ and guide us until we properly articulate the project in mind.

Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
’Cause there’s a million things to be
You know that there are

And if you want to live high, live high
And if you want to live low, live low
’Cause there’s a million ways to go
You know that there are
